Mid-Hudson Valley Camp
The Mid Hudson Valley Camp has been in existence for over 30 years. The camp is located along the scenic Hudson River in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. The camp has served hundreds of children and persons with disabilities over the years and continues to provide children with a joy-filled summer camp experience.
The Marist Brothers, an order of Catholic teaching Brothers, provide their own property to give this camp ministry to so many special people.
For 11 weeks of summer, the Marist Brothers' property in Esopus, New York comes alive with the sounds of summer camp. The property is home to numerous Brothers, as well as being a retreat house during the winter, spring and fall. It is through the generosity of the Marist Brothers that the camp is able be so successful.
What makes the Mid Hudson Valley Camp particularly special is the volunteer staff that comes each year to provide each camp with spirit, energy, and a feeling of home. High school students, college students, lay persons and religious persons come each year to staff the camp. Because no one receives pay, we are able to maintain a low cost camp that is able to serve the neediest of families.
Each week a different group comes to Esopus and calls it home. The Mid Hudson Valley Camp serves the following populations: inner city children from Chinatown and the South Bronx, children and adults with developmental disabilities, deaf children, children with cancer, and children living with HIV/AIDS.
The philosophy of the Mid Hudson Valley Camp is to live out the Gospel message, to love one another and to serve the neediest of people. The combination of campers, counselors and staff create an atmosphere of respect, joy and boundless love.
